Private: Introduction To Montreal - Walking TourExplore > Canada > Montreal > Private: Introduction To Montreal - Walking TourOverviewDiscover this fur trapping town turned big city hub! This City of Saints is a truly magical place, but now holds an even more special place after this experience! From the guides to the sites to the stories, we would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Think you know Montreal? Think again! Whether you’re a local or visitor, this tour uncovers aspects of Montreal’s history that you will find surprising. Because this city didn’t go from a small fur trapping town to the bustling center of Quebec overnight. You’ll visit key sites, including Place d’Armes, where you’ll learn about Montreal’s extensive background right in the heart of it all. Other sites you’ll visit include Place d’Youville, the place of Montreal’s founding, and the house of Simon McTavish, founding partner of the North West Company. This area of the city is where the fur trade boomed and also where fierce competition happened between companies under British rule. Next, you’ll journey through Rue Saint-Jacques, known as the “Wall Street of Canada.” Learn about the rise of Canada’s financial hub as you explore the Montreal World Trade Centre which was restored in the early 90s. Your guide will lead you to Place d’Armes which features breathtaking architecture, as it’s home to Notre-Dame Basilica and the Bank of Montreal. Here, you’ll discuss the conflict between urban and rural business and how the railroad changed this dynamic forever. - A central meeting point in the Old Town of Montreal will be provided upon confirmation. - This is a walking tour.
