Pre-Cruise Private Tour Of Copenhagen With Guide - Hotel Pick UpExplore > Denmark > Copenhagen > Pre-Cruise Private Tour Of Copenhagen With Guide - Hotel Pick Up
OverviewDenmark's capitol is full of historic buildings, beautiful statues and charming streets. Copenhagen had its sights on greatness since the 11th century when it first became a settlement. The harbor provided endless opportunities for trade, warfare and travel with countless reconstructions as new rulers and sieges took place. This once small fishing village has since erupted into a home for over a million Danes and is often ranked towards the top of the most appealing cities in which to live. Beginning with a pickup at the cruise pier or hotel, your private driver and licensed guide will take you to the oldest and most charming parts of the city, as well as some of the newer ones. You'll drive past the docks at Nyhavn, where sailors celebrated in days gone by. It is now a lovely part of the city with gourmet cafes and bars. There's a stop to see the impressive Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish Royal Family and the beautiful monument to Princess Marie of Orléans. Continuing on, we'll reach Amalienborg Castle, the prime residence of the Danish Royal family. Here, four identical palaces surround the octagon square, one of the most beautiful in Europe. The district of Amalienborg is all about royalty and the pomp and ceremony that goes with it. We'll take an in-depth look at Rosenborg Castle, one of the many built by the "Architect King" Christian IV in 1617. This pearl of a renaissance castle was built as the King's country house. Today, Rosenborg Castle is a Royal museum and the setting for the Royal collections, including the crown jewels, which are protected by the Royal Guard. You'll glimpse the charmed life of the royals at this three-story, turreted, Dutch Renaissance-style castle. Copenhagen's public art is a signature of the city with perhaps the most famous of its statues being The Little Mermaid, from the beloved book of the same name, written by famous Dane, Hans Christensen Anderson. The imposing Gefion Fountain is a site to behold. A base of large scale animals are driven from above by the Norse Goddess Gefion. Throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish! En route to the modern architectural wonder that is the Copenhagen Opera House we'll pass the Marble Church, known for its rococo architecture and the sleek Royal Danish Playhouse. We'll visit Kings New Square, the largest and most important square in the city. Located at the end of a pedestrian mall, you'll enjoy strolling its charming cobblestone streets. - Entrance to the Rosenborg Castle with Crown Jewels is included in the tour cost. This is the only site you'll actually enter. Additional entrance fees are not included. - If you'd like a different departure time, please call ShoreTrips prior to placing your reservation. - There is a limit of 1 suitcase and 1 hand bag per person.
