Jewish Nice And Cannes - Full Day TourExplore > France > Nice > Jewish Nice And Cannes - Full Day TourOverviewEnjoy the cities of Nice and Cannes with an emphasis on Jewish communities, both past and present. Nice, one of the oldest human settlements in the world, is named after the Greek goddess of victory, Nike. Gateway to the French Riviera, “Nissa la Belle” or “Nice the Beautiful” is a must-see destination on the Mediterranean. Combine that with a visit to Cannes, a city synonymous with glamour and celebrity. You'll discover all of this, while keeping the focus on the contributions and lives of those cities' Jewish communities, providing for a truly memorable day. Be whisked away to the Nice Old Town, where you can walk among the red roofs and narrow alleys that have remained almost unchanged since the 1700’s. The story of Jewish Nice is hiding in these streets. Learn how Jewish and non-Jewish residents worked together to build tunnels for Jews to bypass the ghettos, why Nice became a haven during WWII, and the ways in which Jewish, French, and Italian history overlap throughout the centuries. While in town, we’ll visit the Nice Synagogue, originally built in 1885, the building survived WWII and was recently renovated. It is now an official French monument site. For a taste of the synthesis of French and Jewish culture, we’ll tour the Musée Marc Chagall, a collection of the famous Jewish painter’s religious works. And we’ll see the reminders of Nice’s Jewish past, through a series of Memorials and plaques commemorating the heroism of resistors and memorializing the great losses of the community, including the former “Street of the Jews” where the community was once forced to live. And on the hill overlooking the city, visit the Chateau Cemetery and its Jewish section. Enjoy a delightful lunch at Restaurant Le Leviathan before we make the pleasant drive from Nice to Cannes. Once in Cannes, we'll stroll along the Promenade de la Croisette and take in the relaxed pace of the city. Cannes is known for the stars that travel to its famous film festival, but it is also known for high quality of life and grand style. See the Association Cultuelle Israélite Cannes Synagogue, an institution of the modern Cannes Jewish community. Depending on the situation, we may be able to go inside. Here in Cannes, you can live out your dreams of being a movie star while gaining an appreciation for the long history of the Jewish people in the South of France. - Admissions, food, and beverages are not included in the price of this tour. - The average cost for a 1 course lunch without drinks is 35 EUR. - All entrance fees to museums and synagogues must be paid in cash in the local currency at the time of the visit. - Marc Chagall Museum entrance fee is 10 EUR (8 EUR for those over age 60). - This tour can accommodate a maximum of 8 guests. - This tour can accommodate those with walkers and collapsible wheelchairs provided the guest can transfer in and out of the vehicle with assistance.
