Viking Tour Of Roskilde Denmark - For Hotel GuestsExplore > Denmark > Copenhagen > Viking Tour Of Roskilde Denmark - For Hotel GuestsOverviewVenture back into the time of the Vikings! This cool tour is terrific for the old and the young. Imagine seeing the real Viking ships from 900 - 100 A.D. right in front of you, especially if you are a youngster! This former medieval capital of Denmark is located at the end of Roskilde fjord and not far from busy Copenhagen. Once upon a time Roskilde was an old Viking area, but today you will find a modern city with an old town well preserved. Everyone enjoys the lovely Danish countryside which we consider that part of your experience. We will travel westward from Copenhagen, through farming countryside and small villages, some of which were founded by Vikings more than a thousand years ago. Upon your arrival in Roskilde, which was the capital of Denmark until 1417, you will visit the Viking Ship Museum. This museum contains the remains of 5 Viking vessels which have been salvaged from the bed of Roskilde Fjord, where they were sunk more than a thousand years ago to prevent agressive intruders gaining access to the town from the sea. The museum is fascinating and also has an extension, Museum Island, where visitors can watch shipwrights at work. After visiting the museum, a short drive to the Town Square, where a visit will be paid to the twin-spired cathedral, Cathedral Roskilde, which stands out from the Danish landscape. Since 1995 the cathedral has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Roskilde may be centuries past its peak, but it is no sleepy museum town. You will find it filled with a dynamic student community, boutique-filled walking streets, and lots of cafes. This tour will give everyone of any age a feeling of the past as well as the current culture in the Danish countryside. - Please pre-purchase the admission to the Viking Museum and the Roskilde Cathedral. - You will do some walking on flat surfaces; wear comfortable shoes - Your English speaking driver/guide will not be able to enter sites with you.
