OverviewExplore the magnificent site of Ephesus, and then spend some time in a local village. After meeting up with your guide in front of the Kusadasi port passenger terminal, depart for the 30-minute drive to the magnificent site of Ephesus. Ephesus, the best preserved of the Greek/Roman cities in Anatolia, will come alive to you as you explore the ancient ruins of this magnificent site. You will see the beautiful Celsus Library, restored and reconstructed according to its original form by the architect Friedmund Hueber in the 1970's. You will also see the Grand Theater, the most spectacular building of Ephesus, built during the Hellenistic age to hold 24,000 spectators. It is there that St. Paul preached. Opposite the Temple of Hadrian are the Hill Houses, homes of Ephesus' wealthy citizens. The city was also the hometown of great philosopher Heraclitus. After a visit to the Temple of Artmis (one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient World), you will arrive at Sirince Village. This old Orthodox Village, 5 miles from Kusadasi, was once named "Cirkince" (ugly). Indeed, its inhabitants gave this name so as to discourage foreigners from visiting, because they did not want to share the beauty of their village. Still, after several years, visitors understood that it was not ugly and re-named it "Sirince" (pretty). Today the village is a perfect synthesis of Turkish-Greek culture as of the 1920's; after the Turkish Independence War, cultural exchange between Greek and Turks occurred and all those typical Greek houses, although they kept their original outside characteristics, have received the local layout inside. At Sirince Village you will have a chance to see the local life at a village, as well as purchase some small local souvenirs and handicrafts if you so choose. After lunch, you may be able to enjoy a cup of traditional Turkish coffee. Your last stop will be the Isa Bey Mosque, a 14th century Turkish architectural masterpiece. The price of this trip includes a driver and air-conditioned vehicle, all transportation costs, an English-speaking guide, lunch, and entrance and parking fees to all sites. Always communicate your needs and expectations to your driver/guide. They are there to take care of you in any situation, and are more than willing to adjust the day accordingly, upon immediate request. Do not feel that you have to rush through your tour, take your time. Ask questions and you may logically determine by the middle of your tour the amount of time you should need to return to the starting point. If you are taken to a shop or school you may leave at anytime. You are not required to purchase anything. • Please note that the Archeological Musesum of Ephesus will be under restoration in 2013.
