Puerto Montt is the gateway to the Chilean Lake District, settled in the 1850s by mostly German pioneers, whose strong influence is still noticeable in the buildings and the orderly countryside. Blue and green lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, thick cold-rain forests and waterfalls are the reason why this area is called "Chile's Switzerland."

Driving through Puerto Montt, you will see the colourful shingled houses and the neo-classical cathedral in the Plaza de Armas, as well as the picturesque Angelmo Fishing Wharf. Make a photo stop at a view point high above the city, for the opportunity to take some great pictures!
Now you will travel north through the lush countryside to Puerto Varas, overlooking Lake Llanquihue, Chile's largest lake. Your final stop will be in Frutillar, founded in 1856 by German settlers, known for its alpine and traditional German-style architecture. Explore this charming city, with a drive through the old district and along the coastal avenue as well as a visit to the regional museum.
