Half-Day City Tour With Visit To Café TortoniExplore > Argentina > Buenos Aires > Half-Day City Tour With Visit To Café TortoniOverviewSpend a half day exploring this dynamic city and enjoy a beverage at the country's oldest café. Discover one of Latin America's hottest destinations as you travel through the heart of Buenos Aires. Sizzling with excitement, this fascinating city is home to the oldest coffee shop in Argentina--the renowned Café Tortoni. Step inside and soak up the ambiance while keepng an eye out for famous visitors. You never know who you'll see! Today you'll get in direct touch with the town where the tango was born. Our first stop is La Boca, a most colorful area. At the famous Caminito Street, you'll meet artists offering their tango pictures. Continuing on the tour, we'll visit Avenida de Mayo that runs into the Plaza de Mayo, which is surrounded by the Casa Rosada (government house), the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo (first City Hall, built during Spanish rule). At the other end of Avenida de Mayo, you'll find the Congress building. On our way to the Congress building, we'll make a short stop at Café Tortoni, the oldest literati café in Argentina. Frequented by intellectuals, politicians, and artists, Café Tortoni has maintained its traditional look throughout the years, and simply walking through the door will take you back in time. We'll relax here and enjoy a complimentary soft drink, wine, or coffee. Passing the Colon Theatre, one of the world's best known opera houses and the cultural pride of the “portenos" (as the inhabitants of Buenos Aires are commonly called), we'll continue to Palermo with its beautiful parks, the city zoo, botanical garden, Argentine horse track, and National Polo Fields. At the end of the tour, we'll visit the Recoleta area, one of the city's most glamorous neighborhoods. At the Recoleta Cemetery--the center of this aristocratic district--you'll find the grave of Eva Duarte, who became famous as Eva Perón (Evita), as well as the Municipal Cultural Center, elegant boutiques, and excellent restaurants surrounded by centennial trees.
