Overview
Holy Rostock! Visit the university, Blucher monument, St. Mary's Church, and Alter Fritz brewery!
This excursion is a wonderful introduction to Rostock and the everyday traditions. All sites will be covered during a walking section.
We'll start out this lovely excursion by taking a nice drive through the outskirts of Rostock. Once we get to the downtown area, you'll walk with your guide along the old city wall, passing by the Kropelin Gate and ending up in the gardens of the Holy Cross Monastery.
You'll see the impressive architecture dating back to 1419 at Rostock University. The university is the oldest institution for higher education in all of the Baltics. View the Blucher Monument, which is in front of the university, and Fountain of Joy of Life, also in the university square.
Next, you'll have some free time to stroll around downtown and/or browse for souvenirs. There's great people watching at the countless bars and cafes.
The next highlight will be a visit to the awe-inspiring St. Mary's Church with its astronomical clock dating back to the 13th century. Learn more about the moving history of St. Mary's during our short ride to a lively microbrewery at the city port.
The "Alter Fritz" invites you to savor a fresh draft of homemade beer served with a pretzel. We'll head back to your cruise ship after enjoying this light snack.
