OverviewIf you would like to stay a little closer to the cruise ship pier, make a trip to bustling Tel Aviv. At the cruise ship pier, board your vehicle for the approximately 25 mile drive to Tel Aviv. Here you will find Israel's second largest city, and the most cosmopolitan. Included in this tour: - Private air conditioned vehicle - Professional driver - English Speaking guide Begin in Caesarea Palaestina (also called Caesarea Maritima) built by Herod the Great on the coast of Israel, about halfway between Tel Aviv and Haifa. During the 1950s and 1960s archaeological excavations uncovered many remains, including a Roman theatre, a temple dedicated to Caesar, a hippodrome, and more. Next you are on to Beit Hatefutsot, or the Diaspora Museum, at the Tel Aviv University. Located at the largest university in Israel, this museum was established in 1978 and traces the history of Jewish communities of the diaspora throughout the ages. Continue on to the home of David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel. Born in Poland, Ben-Gurion played a crucial role in the founding of the state of Israel, carrying on through the turmoil of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, leading the country in its initial years of existence. In his will he bequeathed his home to the state of Israel, requesting that it be opened to the public. All items belonging to him and his wife are still there, as well as souvenirs and exhibits that were added later on. Now pay a visit to Dizengoff Street, where you will get a chance to do some shopping in the local environment. Search for great souvenirs to bring home with you. Food, beverage, optional gratuities, and entrance fees are not included. Please wear comfortable clothing and good shoes, and bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The drive from port to Jerusalem will take about 2 hours. The Diaspora Museum is closed on Saturdays. The David Ben-Gurion museum home is closed on Saturdays and Friday afternoons. Please note: Jewish sites may close early on Fridays and will be closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. If your tour is on a Saturday, the Jewish sites will be substituted with other sites. Attention clients: You must carry your passport with you on this tour. You will not be able to enter certain sites if you do not have your passport.
