Insiders' Heart Of Venice - A Shoretrips Premium Shared TourExplore > Italy > Venice > Insiders' Heart Of Venice - A Shoretrips Premium Shared Tour
OverviewExplore the wonderful city of Venice by foot--and by gondola. This wonderful walking tour will lead you into the central core of Venice in the footsteps of past and present Venetians. Our tour begins in St. Mark's Square, where we'll walk through the old theater district, passing by the famous Gran Teatro la Fenice and the celebrated Opera House, which has been newly rebuilt after it was severely damaged in a 1996 fire. Next, we'll follow in the footsteps of Antonio Vivaldi and Casanova as we enter the Sant'Angelo and San Samuele districts, once renowned for theaters, music, and world famous artists such as the inventor and textile designer Mariano Fortuny, Spanish by origin and, like many others, Venetian by adoption. Today, Alberto Valese's art shop, Ebru, with its magic paper-mache' creations, carries on the local tradition of highly skilled craftmanship. We'll use the popular "gondola shuttle" to cross the Grand Canal at San Toma' and explore the Sestier di San Polo (one of Venice's six neighborhoods). We'll pass by the house of Carlo Goldoni, the great Venetian playwright who based his witty comedies on everyday life in 18th century Venice, and whose work is still successufully staged today. Near the Rialto market area, we'll venture into the former red light district and stroll by the majestic palaces of Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi and Caterina Cornaro, two of the few female protagonists of the local Venetian history scene through the centuries. The colorful food market area we pass through is enlivened by stylish wine bars and cafés lined along the Grand Canal, where locals and foreigners linger over their prosecco. Crossing the world famous Rialto bridge, we'll arrive in the San Giovanni Grisostomo district, home to many silk merchants during the Middle Ages and the place where Marco Polo and his family lived. Our tour ends with a taste of the best gelato in town...your guide will make sure you get back easily to St. Mark's Square, only five minutes away. - We will confirm your reservation when we have at least 2 passengers booked. - This tour departs from St. Mark's Square for all passengers (cruise ship passengers and hotel guests).
