Half Day Tour With St. Chora And Underground Cistern, And Transfer Ship - HotelExplore > Turkey > Istanbul > Half Day Tour With St. Chora And Underground Cistern, And Transfer Ship - Hotel
OverviewExplore history and architecture during a tour of St. Chora, ending your tour at your ship or hotel! Your guide will introduce him/herself and give you some background on the city and spots you are going to visit. Yours is an exploration of history and architecture. Your first stop will be the church of St. Saviour in Chora. The museum offers the finest example of Byzantine mosaic work in the city, as well as superb fourteenth-century frescoes depicting the Genealogy of Christ, the Life of the Virgin and Christ's Ministry. The present day St. Saviour Church of Chora dates back from the late 11th century and originally this was a church outside Constantine's original city walls and so it was named the Church of St Saviour in Chora... this literally means in the country side. This complex is often passed over because of it's inconvenient location in Istanbul's western edge near remnants of the old Constantinian Walls, built by Emperor Theodosius II in AD 413. Another of your stops is the Byzantine Cisterns built by Justinian the Great in 6th century AD. The Underground Bascilica Cistern or 'Sunken Palace' today is a atmospherically spotlighted massive underground water cavern of beautiful arches and Roman support columns and their watery reflections, and used to be the Byzantine city's main water storage under siege or in hard times and though it is often missed with so much to see in Istanbul, it is a fascinating stop. Before leaving the city, you will have some time to follow your guide through the famous Nur-U Osmaniye neighborhood. Here you can mingle with the locals Turks in search for bargains before heading off to the Grand Bazaar. - The price of this tour includes a driver and air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking guide, and entrance and parking fees to all sites. Food and gratuities are not included. - Guests will be picked up from their hotel at 9 a.m. and, after concluding their half day tour around 1 p.m., will be transferred to the pier at approx. 1:30 p.m. when ships start accepting passengers for embarkation. - As this is a transfer, as well as a tour, you will have luggage. Each person will be allowed two pieces of luggage and one carry-on with no extra fees. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
