Uxmal - The Most Majestic Of The RuinsExplore > Mexico > Progreso > Uxmal - The Most Majestic Of The RuinsOverviewA private tour. How did they build this 100' tall pyramid in just one day? I was 16 years old when I first visited Uxmal...and became enthralled with its magnificence. Uxmal (OOSH-mahl) means "built three times" and though its name is a mystery, its beauty is not. It is one of the best restored and maintained ruins in the Yucatan and certainly one of the most magnificent. Its architecture is characterized by low horizontal palaces set around courtyards, decorated with rich sculptural elements and details. It was the capital of this region. The most impressive structure is the 100' tall House of the Magician. Ancient legend states that it was built in one night. Its western stairway faces the setting sun at the summer solstice. You will need a few hours to explore this wonderful site and visit its museum, snack bar, gift shops, and various local vendors. The cost of snacks or lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. Restrooms are clean and easily located. Included in this tour will be a private vehicle and guide/driver for 5 hours. Parking fees, entrance fees and taxes are also included. - It is approximately a 1 hour and 45 minute drive to Uxmal. - The cost of this tour includes a private vehicle and driver/guide for 5 hours, parking fees, entrance fees, and taxes. - Please wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. - Visitors are not allowed to climb the pyramids at Uxmal.
