With so many pristine natural landscapes and unique ecosystems, it's no wonder that WA is experiencing an eco-modation boom. Sal Salis in the Cape Range National Park is one of these new sustainable retreats which offer a different kind of luxury for an unforgettable experience.
Overview
Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is an exclusive safari camp hidden in the white sand dunes of Western Australia's Cape Range National Park. Nine spacious wilderness tents are just metres from the water's edge and the world's greatest fringing coastal coral reef.
Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is a camp styled on barefoot luxury lines. We are located in the heart of the Cape Range National Park - literally metres from the waters edge of the World Heritage Listed Ningaloo Reef.
A Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef experience allows a select few travelers to immerse themselves in the natural and human stories of some of Australia's most spectacular locations. With the knowledge and passion of our field guides, our ultimate aim is to open people's minds to our environment through experiences that are thought provoking and inspirational; Australia's natural heritage is one of the richest and oldest on earth; its Aboriginal culture is the oldest remaining in the world; its environment is one of the most diverse and specialized on earth; and its history is to a great extent untold. The key to a Sal Salis Wild Bush Luxury experience lies in the stories that we tell, in which we take you 'behind the scenes' to one of the most fascinating and least understood continents on earth.
We have a desire to conserve the environment that sustains us and this philosophy guides everything that we do, by creating value in the remote natural experiences that we deliver. The concept of 'Wild Bush Luxury' brings a touch of style to an experience of Australia's extraordinarily diverse habitat: a 'down to earth' yet attentive level of service; an appreciation of the finer details; and above all a team of hosts and guides who are passionate about Australia's environment, wildlife and culture.
Our main lodge offers a comfortable lounge area with panoramic views across the reef and Indian Ocean and a small reference library with a variety of board games. Our sunken dining area offers a self-service bar with a selection of Australian wine, beer and soft drinks to enjoy.
In keeping with our philosophy of 'Wild Bush Luxury', the focus of your stay at Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is the wilderness around you and its marine and land inhabitants. Your luxury tent accommodation is designed to expose you to the sights and sounds of the great outdoors ... a red kangaroo grazing amongst the dunes, the beautiful song of a butcherbird or a humpback whale breaching just beyond the reef. These you are sharing with a maximum of just 17 other guests.
Each Wilderness Tent is complete with a hammock where you can relax with a chilled glass of wine and watch Humpbacks breaching beyond the reef on their annual mirgration (Jun-Nov) or curl up with a good book.
The camp has been designed to operate in tune with the fragile environment of Cape Range National Park and as such we abide by strict principles of minimal impact and sustainability. All of our power is solar-generated, each en suite bathroom has a natureloo (marketing jargon for state of the art composting loos!), water usage is very carefully managed and no waste material escapes into the surrounding ecosystem. Guests are allocated 20L of water per person per day for showering. Native herb soaps and ecologically sound shampoos are provided. The tents are spacious and naturally comfortable but they are also removed from the distractions of the modern world (and todays modern hotel room), so do not offer the likes of minbars, flatscreen TVs, telephones (we are solar powered so are careful with how we use our power!). It's simple luxury in tune with nature - to fully appreciate this magnificient part of the world.
The coral reef is literally on your doorstep and our guides are passionate and knowledgeable people who love showing you their backyard – over 500 species of fish, 250 coral species and 600 species of mollusc. Ningaloo is known as one of the best places on earth to see and swim with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. It is also a major breeding area for Hawksbill, Green and Loggerhead Turtles, which are seen daily in front of the camp.
We provide guests with their snorkel equipment, including wetsuits or vests (if required) and sea-kayaks for our guided kayak-snorkel adventures. Down on the beach there is a shaded area with sun loungers and icebox with cool drinks. Our whale deck provides the perfect vantage point to view Humpback whales breaching and to enjoy a starry sky in the evenings.
